Starting from the public release #1, Mote will deviate from the version scheme used by it's parent, MapTool. The RPTools' dev team has been loosely tagging their next project with "1.4", and "2.0", for the past few years, but they seem to be settling for 1.4 as of this writing.
To avoid creating confusion, both Mote and Mote-X will start at 1.0, and will use a semantic scheme (e.g. 1.0.0), for succeeding releases. The first digit marks a major release. The 2nd digit marks major features within a major release. While the 3rd will be used to denote a build number, mostly used to mark bug fixes, or some minor update. This follows (but doesn't strictly adhere to) the versioning guidelines outlined here.
For any questions you may have about this, do visit our G+ community, or our temporary forums, and drop as a note there. We'll get to you as soon as we can.
Thanks.
